The simple answer is that hunger sickness is chronic under-nutrition. Here’s why being hungry makes an orca feel so sick and why it can be so dangerous. There are many toxic things in the ocean. Apex predators are exposed to the most toxins of all. A healthy orca manages the toxins but putting them into the fat layer that keeps him warm. There the toxic substances do not interact with the rest of the body. They are dormant. But when an orca doesn’t have enough to eat, her body turns to the fat to make energy. But then the toxins stored in the fat are released and circulate in the body causing damage.

You can help by fighting climate change, using fewer plastics, recycling carefully, and voting for policies that support the environment. The whole ocean is counting on us to speak for them.

Hi. I am currently listening to the audiobook on Libby, our library’s app. I cannot find the audiobook enhancement with the maps anywhere. We are thoroughly enjoying it! Please can you share a link the the audiobook enhancements? Thank you.

      Hi Juanita,
I’m so glad you’ve found the audio book. I listen to books on Libby all the time. But I don’t know anything about audio enhancements. I’ve never even heard of them. I wonder if a librarian could help you. And I do hope you get a chance to look at all the terrific physical art in the books.

Omg I love your books so much! You are such a great author and your books are so deep and mysterious. I love that! I have all three of your books on animals, and I am exited to get the next one you make as well!
